I am originally from Chicago, but have been a resident of the beautiful Pacific Northwest for 20 years now. I was blessed to have a good work life in two different career areas. I did not expect to find the best job I have ever had after I quit working. As a retired businessperson, I looked for opportunities to serve as a volunteer in my local community. One of the first places I contacted was Bridge Ministries. This 501 c 3 charity had been known to me for many years. When I called, like many non-profits, they had plenty of work to do and quickly assigned a task to me. What appeared to be a simple commitment to handle a little project has become my life work. Over the next two years, amazing situations evolved to call me to the position I now hold as Executive Director of this unique Christian organization committed to serving people with disabilities. The focus is simple - "Bridge" - as we refer to ourselves as staff & volunteers & supporters, work to eliminate ( bridge ) the isolation that burdens so many people with disabilities. We wash and clean and recycle ( yes we are "green") wheelchairs and walkers and other stuff, and give it away free to those who cannot afford it. We are Certified Guardians for Forty-two people who have no family able to care for them. And we provide Chaplaincy outreach to all those who need a spiritual guide, a caring ear and helpful advice to move their lives back toward involvement in their community.
