My Bio

I've been sitting here thinking, "Who am I?" Or at least, "Who do I want people that might read this biography to think that I am?" And, "Why do I care?"

And I've started to write many different things to answer those questions..."I work for a local nonprofit that...", nah scratch that, that's not why I'm here..."I am sick of the way the media...", no, that makes me look like some raging Amish wannabe..."I live in Bellingham and I love to sail...", well that's a bit superficial. So I continued to leave this page rather blank. Just my name and some issues that are interesting to me.

So here I am now. Still trying to identify myself for the purpose of impressing people I may never meet. I think I have this to say, "I am sort of average for my generation."

I care about a lot of issues today. I care about how people are treated and where our government is going. It matters to me that we take care of the planet and teach our children how to be good human beings. But I'm not an activist. I make great efforts to recycle anything I can. I leave the lights off whenever possible. I try to walk places when it's available, and I am generally nice to people I meet in the world. I enjoy working in nonprofits, and I care about what it is I do, but I'm no radical. I am a passionate person, but I haven't made drastic changes in my life to affect the greater good.

I think that's why I'm here. I do want to play my part. I want to be educated and I want to involve myself in the things that matter to me. And this is a great forum for that. I don't have to go lie in front of a tank to make use of myself in the world. I can read what's going on; I can interact with people that have similar concerns; I can learn ways to make changes to my life or effects on the lives around me.

So I suppose that's it. That's who I am and why I'm here. Let's get to work...
