I live in Bellingham, WA with my husband Alan and our five cats, and one dog.  We are both active volunteers for the Alternative Humane Society, and are discovering how to be true members of our local community. 

How to sum up my personal philosophy for this profile?  I believe education and information -- relevant information, real information, not the drivel we're spoon fed by the corporate media -- are crucial to understanding our world and living in it as normal, productive, healthy people.  I believe we're headed for a very different world, a world in which mass transportation and mass communication won't be so cheap and easy, and therefore stong local communities really matter.  I'm not a doomsdayer, I just think we need to be realistic, and start working on what really matters.  Hey, even if the global economy doesn't crash, we'll be better off if we know our neighbors and live more sustainably!
