SiCK of our health care system
My husband and I just finished watching SiCKO. Yes, I know, we're a few months behind the rest of the progressive community in America, but better late than never, right? I often feel like I have to "do something" after watching one of Michael Moore's films, but this time, I feel like I really have to.
In a nutshell, I feel so ashamed to be a privileged, wealthy (comparatively), educated person living in comfort in a country that treats its weak, sick, and poor (and also its middle class!) so despicably. Our health care system is so pathetically behind the majority of the developed world. Even Cuba is doing better than we are in many respects, for heaven's sake! Come on. We can do better than this, we, the proclaimed "shining city on the hill". What a joke.
A large part of me wants to just move to France, or some country that has its priorities straight. We can't afford universal health care? Well, maybe if we didn't put so much money into d*** wars. Maybe if we didn't spend over half our budget on military and defense....
Of course, leaving isn't the answer... knowledge requires action. Even if I did move to France, I still have to DO SOMETHING. If I'm not going to do something here, I may as well move somewhere else, but even from abroad, I still have to do something.
This is the generation, folks. We are going to catch up with the rest of the civilized world eventually, and I believe our generation will be the one to make it happen. How am I going to be a part of it? How are you going to be a part of it?

The French are probably cursing Michael Moore now!
I know! That film just read like a big commercial for moving to France. I'm sure lots of people actually moved there after watching it.
It's really too bad about our state of health care affairs. Makes me so sad. I'm one of the many who uses the finger-crossing method of health care- just cross my fingers and hope I don't get sick. Insurance is too expensive, but I don't qualify for medicare. Same story for too many, I know.
