Exceptional Children’s Foundation Hires New Director of Development

The Exceptional Children’s Foundation (ECF) has named Guy Shulman the new director of development to oversee all fundraising, branding, public relations and marketing activities. Shulman brings a mix of complementary skills, including management, development and professional mental health experience.

ECF is one of California’s largest nonprofit organizations serving children and adults with developmental, learning and emotional disabilities. From 15 different locations throughout Los Angeles County, ECF annually assists 2,300 individuals and their families.

“Guy is a wonderful addition to the ECF team,” said Dr. Scott Bowling, president and CEO of ECF. “He joins us at a time of amazing growth and opportunity as we are in the final stages of merging the Kayne Eras Center into ECF. I know that supporters of both organizations will appreciate Guy’s enthusiasm and expertise.”

Shulman began his professional career as a clinical psychologist before spending more than 20 years writing and producing shows for film and television. Immediately prior to joining ECF, he served as the chief development officer for The Children’s Clinic in Long Beach. He also has overseen development programs for Yo San University, the Weingart Center Association, and the Gay and Lesbian Adolescent Social Services (G.L.A.S.S.), among others. Shulman holds a Master of Arts in psychology from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of Detroit.

As ECF’s director of development, Shulman will be responsible for providing leadership, planning and implementation strategies for securing foundation, corporate and private financial assistance. He will also manage special events and all external communications.

“I am excited about the opportunity to help ECF continue providing the vital programs and services they have delivered to people with developmental disabilities for the past 62 years,” said Shulman. “ECF is a dynamic organization that is truly part of the fabric of Los Angeles. I’m looking forward to evangelizing ECF’s great work.”
