Bhutto Assassination and What Legacy She Offers

Today's report of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto's assassination was an extremley sad moment for me on many levels. First and foremost, I remember "Pinky" as a classmate at Harvard in the '70's. She was warm, smart, and open to communication with everyone. That lovely energy will be lost. Second, I'm sad for her family and friends as their loss is significant. Third, the people of Pakistan are faced with many choices which I trust the democratic process will enable them to make the best ones for their country. She will no longer be among those choices. General Musharraf has promised to continue forward to democratic elections. He should remain resolute. I can only hope the wonderful, talented people of Pakistan will find superlative leader candidates to choose from among their population as long as the political process can continue freely.

Ms. Bhutto's death fuels the desire to be more steadfast against the forces of hatred and destruction so that freedom of choice can prevail without intimidation. Unfortunately, there are many who wish to make life more difficult than it already naturally is. Fortunately, their course is futile for the positive spirit of humanity has no match. And, "Pinky" set an example that a woman can make a huge difference in the political process.

Please include Ms. Bhutto in your prayers along with our friends in Pakistan. May their future be bright.
