Recycled Love

Now, here is a clever solution to recycling. If you're crafty, you can probably make your own, but if you feel like supporting innovative, creative, cool as can be independent business, then you should consider spending $16 for these fabulous post-post-consumer waste notebooks.

Papergeist uses old LP covers as colorful and funky covers for notebooks that are filled with re-used paper. The paper itself is "rescued." It is used on one side, but folded in half so that the used side is on the inside and the "clean" backside is available to be written on. The open end is bound into the wire binding and voila, a funky notebook with every page usable. I love this.

English Retreads makes gorgeous bags - messenger bags, wallets, handbags - out of used inner tubes from semi trucks. After 60,000 miles, they're headed to the Landfill, until Heather English rescues them and turns them into totally hip and cool bags. LOVE these!   Especially love that, as a hard core vegan and environmentalist, she literally pulled an inner tube out of a river and turned it into a business. Girl after my heart!

So, since this isn't much of a blog post all by itself, let's consider it a question: What is your favorite recycled product. It can be anything, but tell us what innovative enviro product you love, and let's support these innovators with our love - and our business!

DIY eco-wrapping paper idea

Hi Alyssa,

Thank you for your kind review of our books!

Here's an idea for anyone with a sewing machine, we make our wrapping paper out of previously used 11x17 paper. Just turn it over on the blank side, and run it through the sewing machine, making swirls and curls. Very pretty with colored or varigated thread. Everyone may not have this size paper sitting around, so use whatever you have: regular paper, paper bags, etc. There are so many DIY alternatives to the store bought kind that you can make from things sitting around your home.
