Skiing the Green

Cause: Making Skiing Environmentally Correct
Solution: Wind, Solar and other clean energy.

I'm a skier. I've been known to update my Facebook profile with the phrase "Alyssa thinks that a day of lame skiing is better than any day with no skiing at all." But I'm keenly aware that even the concept of skiing - with all those lifts, and parking lots, restaurants, and the power necessary to make them all work - is probably an environmental disaster. What's an environmentalist skier to do?

I was thrilled to find a little write up in Conscious Choice Magazine that the Aspen Skiing Company is leading the charge to a Green Skiing experience. Not only are ALL of their resorts 100% wind-powered, they use solar and hydro-electric power, and groom their trails using snowcats that run on biodiesel. THANKS! You've soothed the guilty soul of this avid skier.

Now, let's get everyone else to follow suit! (And I'm thrilled that my ski addiction can now be considered work, as I bring the world stories of innovative solutions to make our planet a better place!
