Rhonda Copeland - Runner Insight

For the last 12 years, the cells in Rhonda Copeland's retinas have been dying. Yours are dying too, but yours replacing themselves, which is why you can read these words. Rhonda, however, has Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP,) and because of it she can't read these words, or anything else. "It's like looking through a misty fog," she explains.

But that's about all she has to say, because she's heading out for a run. In fact, she needs to run and average of almost 6 miles a day in order to reach her goal of running from her home in Montana all the way to the Ellen DeGeneres show in Burbank, CA. That's a bit more than 1,222 miles, through a misty fog without seeing where she's going. (Yes, she's doing it in her neighborhood, but the equivalent mileage is impressive, even if she weren't blind.)

Rhonda is running because she loves to run and being blind didn't seem like a good enough reason to stop. But she's also doing it to raise awareness about RP, and to raise money to provide guide dogs for those who need them. Though she's never complained about her blindness, or asked anyone to do anything for her, she is asking for help with this.

Here's what you can do. Donate to her cause. If 30,000 of you give $1, she's there! And maybe let Ellen know that Rhonda is on her way, because we think she should be on the show, not just in the audience. (And tell Ellen we love her, while you're at it.)
