Global Links for A Healthy Planet

GLOBAL LINKS is a nonprofit organization that recovers unused but still useable hospital surplus and medical supplies which would otherwise be thrown away, and redirects them to hospitals and clinics in Latin America. While many international charitable organizations collect supplies donated by manufacturers, Global Links has created a new model, recovering still useable supplies (from sutures to hospital beds) that hospitals would just toss out. In 2008, Global Links recovered and shipped more than 200 tons of medical materials collected from southwestern Pennsylvania area hospitals. These items are hand-sorted and meticulously packed by volunteers who give thousands of hours of their time, ensuring that only items that have been specifically requested and itemized are shipped, saving waste and cost on the receiving end as well. You have to think that if every hospital in the country did this, there would be a lot less trash and a lot more healthy people on the planet. Just a thought.
