Changing the Poverty Landscape of Africa

Cause: Ending Extreme Global Poverty
Solution: Millennium Villages

To most of us, the challenge of ending extreme poverty seems overwhelming, if not downright impossible. Especially in developing countries that we, personally, know so little about. How can we possibly have a positive impact on the 300 million Africans who live on less than $1 a day? Jeffrey Sachs, and his Millennium Villages Project, think they have an answer -- beginning with the simple concept that impoverished peoples can transform themselves if they are empowered with proven, practical technologies.

In 80 different Millennium Village clusters, located in 12 countries throughout Africa, lives are being transformed through integrated investments in education, infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare and economic development. The Millennium Villages' innovative, systemic approach to international development is literally changing the landscape of Africa, one village at a time. In Millennium Villages across the continent, crop yields are improving, healthcare facilities are being renovated and healthcare workers trained, schools are offering much-needed meals to more school kids, clean water wells are being drilled and new micro-businesses are being developed.
